NJ TRANSIT WANTS TO EXTEND RAIL SERVICE
To extend rail service, NJ Transit officials hope to be part of an arrangement to loop some of their trains from northern and central New Jersey to Atlantic City and back on existing rail lines in Philadelphia. The plan for direct NJ Transit rail service between Newark Penn Station or Hoboken and Atlantic City via Philadelphia would include stops at Princeton Junction, Hamilton and Trenton. The proposal depends on NJ Transit successfully negotiating with Amtrak for use of its Northeast Corridor tracks between Trenton and Philadelphia.
MONMOUTH BEACH REPLENISHMENT WINS NATIONAL HONOR
A stretch of Monmouth County shoreline has been named among the top six beach restoration projects in the country by the American Shore and Beach Preservation Association. The honor went to the 18 miles of replenished beaches between Sea Bright and the Manasquan Inlet.
This was not the first time a New Jersey shoreline was cited by the association. Last year, the beaches from Cape May Inlet to Lower Township became the first in the state to earn the designation. However, the Monmouth restoration work- encompassing 18 of 21 coastal towns in Central New Jersey- represents the largest replenishment project in the nation.
Additionally---if you want to learn more about the Monmouth beach replenishment program, plan to attend the Monmouth County Alliance for Action meeting on July 7. The featured speaker will be David Rosenblatt, Administrator, NJ Department of Environmental Protection Office of Engineering & Construction.
