CASINO REINVESTMENT AUTHORITY TO BUILD IN ATLANTIC CITY
The Casino Reinvestment Development Authority is planning new major construction programs in Atlantic City. Proposals include new residential and commercial development near The Walk, housing for students and casino workers in “underused” sections of the city and consolidating government offices downtown to generate economic activity.
PRINCETON PLANS TO REDEVELOP HOUSING FOR GRAD STUDENTS
Princeton University is planning redevelop the Hibben-Magie apartments, two-eight story high buildings built in the late 1960’s. Plans for replacement structures include more than a dozen buildings, ranging from two to five stories, with townhouses of one to four bedroom; a commons facility, including a fitness center and children’s playroom; and a 432-space parking deck. The plans must be approved by Princeton Township government.
NEW BRUNSWICK TRANSIT VILLAGE BUILDING IS TOPPED OFF
The “topping off” of steel was held for the $142 million building which is part of New Brunswick’s Gateway Transit Village Redevelopment Project. The Project will include a Barnes & Noble Superstore, a restaurant and 57,000 square-feet of additional commercial space, as well as condos and apartments. Mayor Jim Cahill said 325 jobs were created for construction and 350 permanent full-time jobs also are expected.

She will feature a “Meet the Players” program of the New Jersey Alliance for Action with reports on over $1 billion in capital spending.

PRESENTATION SET ON NEW PARKWAY AND I-78 INTERCHANGE
The New Jersey Professional Engineers in Construction (PEC) is hosting a technical presentation on I-78 and Garden State Parkway Interchange 143 improvements, preceded by dinner, on May 25 at the Pines Manor, Edison.
The PEC says the project is approximately 95 percent complete, with spring 2011 work to include milling, resurfacing and final paving and striping. The PEC can be reached at (732) 739-8636.
$14 MILLION INVESTMENT ANNOUNCED FOR SUMMIT PROJECT
An investment of $14 million was announced for a new office project in downtown Summit on a site that has stood vacant for several years. It will create a 65,000-square-foot four-story Class A office building and 200-car parking structure. Construction will begin this month for occupancy in the summer of 2012.
MODULAR DATA CENTER OPENS IN EDISON --- CALLED WORLD’S LARGEST
The largest modular data center in the world is set to open in Edison Township. The site is located at Interchange 10 of the NJ Turnpike in an 830,000-square-foot facility previously occupied by the New York Times.
STATE APPROVES OFFSHORE WIND PROJECT OFF ATLANTIC CITY
Permits have been approved by the State for an offshore wind project less than three miles off the coast of Atlantic City. The developer, Fishermen’s Energy, a coalition of fishermen, said the project could be the first operating offshore wind farm in New Jersey and the nation.
The demonstration-scale wind farm would be built 2.8 miles from the Atlantic City boardwalk, closer to the shore than other proposals. Its turbines could produce up to 25 megawatts, capable of powering about 10,000 homes.
MIDDLESEX COUNTY ALLIANCE FOR ACTION TO MEET MAY 13
The Middlesex County Alliance for Action will meet on Friday, May 13, to hear presentations on widening of the NJ Turnpike, Middlesex County’s economy and Middlesex County College.
The meeting will be held at the NJ Carpenters Funds Conference Room, Raritan Plaza II, Raritan Center, Edison. Registration will begin at 8:15 a.m. and the program at 9:00 a.m.
Presentations include:
- Christopher D. Rafano, Director of the Middlesex County Board of Freeholders, on “Weathering the Uncertain Economy.”
- John Keller, P.E. Supervising Engineer of the NJ Turnpike Authority.
- Dr. Joann LePerla-Morales, President of Middlesex County College, on the College’s “46 Years of Serving Middlesex County.”

NEW STATE ENERGY MASTER PLAN IS WEEKS AWAY
The New Jersey Board of Public Utilities reported that it expects to complete work on the State’s Energy Master Plan in weeks. BPU President Lee Solomon said the plan was delayed by the federal response to the nuclear crisis in Japan and action by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission that could affect plans for three new natural gas-fueled power plants.
