CORZINE ADMINISTRATION NEWS
Governor Jon Corzine has announced the following nominees to his Cabinet:

Kris Kolluri as Commissioner of Transportation. He is former Assistant Commissioner and Chief of Staff at the DOT. An attorney, he has been in private practice since January 2005.

Gary D. Rose to head the Governor’s Office of Economic Growth and Chair of the Governor’s Economic Growth Council. Rose is a 25-year veteran and retired partner of Goldman Sachs.

Steven M. Goldman as Commissioner of Banking and Insurance. He is a senior member and 22-year verteran of the law firm of Sills Cummis Epstein & Gross.

New Commissioner of Environmental Protection Lisa Jackson announced the appointments of John Watson and Adam Zellner as DEP Assistant Commissioners. Watson will be Deputy Commissioner for Natural Resources and Zellner Deputy Commissioner for Policy and Legislative Affairs.

ATLANTIC CITY INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT EXPANSION PROJECTS
Major expansion and improvement plans for Atlantic City International Airport have been initiated under the leadership of Frank Spencer, Chairman of the South Jersey Transportation Authority. Plans include the first step of a $12 million airport apron expansion project, an addition and improvements to the terminal and a new parking facility.

The Alliance for Action strongly supports the Atlantic City International Airport projects. It urges its members, friends and the public to contact members of New Jersey’s Congressional delegation to ensure continuation of federal funding for the project.

MONROE VOTERS APPROVE $26.8 MILLION SCHOOL
Monroe Township voters have approved a $26.8 million bond proposal for construction of a new elementary school. The vote was 3,481 to 1,697, with 20.3 percent of township registered voters going to the polls.

Amenities at the new school will include a central courtyard, media center and music area on the 30-acre plot along Applegarth Road. The school will initially house kindergarten through sixth grade, with each grade having its own wing. It could be built as early as 2008.

PEOPLE ON THE MOVE
Alan J. Steinberg, a former Alliance Board member, has been appointed as the new Region 2 Administrator for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The region covers New Jersey, New York, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands and seven Tribal Nations. Steinberg is former Executive Director of the New Jersey Meadowlands Commission.

Bill Castner has been named Executive Director of the State Assembly Majority Office. He had served the past four years as Deputy Director and Associate Executive Director of the Majority Office.

Paul T. Fader, former Chief Counsel to the Governor and Director of the Governor’s Authorities Unit, has joined the law firm of Florio Perrucci Steinhardt & Fader of Phillipsburg as a named Partner. He will head the new office in Rochelle Park for the firm, which is headed by former Governor Jim Florio.

ALLIANCE IN ACTION
The Gloucester County Alliance for Action will meet on Friday, February 10, at Riverwinds Community Center in Thorofare. The program will include:

Joseph A. Balzano, Executive Director & CEO of the South Jersey Port Corporation, on a new deepwater port for Paulsboro; George Strachan, Assistant Administrator of the Gloucester County Improvement Authority, on the planned new “dream park” in Logan; and Thomas A. Mueller, Director of External Affairs for BP, on a liquefied natural gas facility at Crown Landing. The program will begin at 9 a.m. following registration at 8:15 a.m. To register, please Go Here.
