CORZINE NOMINATES ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION COMMISSIONER AND PUBLIC ADVOCATE
Governor-elect Jon S. Corzine today nominated Lisa Jackson to head the Department of Environmental Protection and Ronald Chen to serve as Public Advocate.
Lisa Jackson has been with New Jersey’s Department of Environmental Protection since 2002 serving as Assistant Commissioner of Compliance and Enforcement and more recently as Assistant Commissioner of Land Use Management. Previously, Jackson served as Director of Enforcement and Compliance Assistance at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. She resides in East Windsor.
The Department of Environmental Protection oversees the conservation of natural resources, the protection of the state’s air and water quality, state forest and park management, the environmentally sound management of hazardous waste, and cleaning of contaminated waste sites.
Ronald Chen comes to the Administration after spending nearly two decades at Rutgers University Law School. At the University, Chen serves as Associate Dean for Academic Affairs; previously, he served as Acting Director of the Minority Student Program, Director of Financial Aid and Assistant Professor of Law. Chen earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Dartmouth College in 1980 and graduated from Rutgers University Law School with high honors in 1983. He resides in Berkeley Heights.
The Public Advocate is charged with the protection of New Jersey consumers and holding government accountable to its citizens. Additionally, the Public Advocate has the authority to sue state agencies to make sure they are following the law.
