MILLIONS OF HEALTHCARE CONSTRUCTION TO BE ANNOUNCED   Millions of dollars in planned healthcare capital construction projects are expected to be reported at a statewide conference on Wednesday, March 30, at a conference entitled "Building a Heathy New Jersey" sponsored by the New Jersey Alliance for Action.  

Alliance President Philip K. Beachem announced an impressive array of speakers representing healthcare facilities, financial organizations and construction industry executives.  The conference will be held at the Marriott Conference Center, Trenton, with registration at 8:00 A.M. and the program at 9:00 A.M.  

  Reports will be given on:

  • Hackensack University Medical Center's North Campus, Heart & Vascular Hospital and Cancer Center.
  • Kennedy Health System's $100 million capital Plan.
  • Merck's $150 million Kenilworth construction project.
  • New Jersey Health Care Facilities Financing Authority.
  • New Jersey Hospital Association's outlook on the industry.
  • Public Service Electric & Gas healthcare financing program.

NEW PORT AUTHORITY CHIEF ENGINEER ZIPF TO MEET WITH ALLIANCE
  Peter Zipf, the new Chief Engineer of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, will be the guest speaker at the New Jersey Alliance for Action's popular "Meet the Players" series on Tuesday, April 19.  

The meeting will be at the NJ Carpenters Funds Conference Room, Raritan Center, Raritan Plaza II, Fieldcrest Avenue, Edison.  Registration will begin at 9:30 a.m. and the program at 10:00 a.m.  

Alliance President Philip K. Beachem said the event will provide an excellent opportunity to network, meeting Zipf and receive information on the Port Authority's capital program for 2011 and 2012.

ALLIANCE SOUTH JERSEY DINNER TO HONOR ASSEMBLYMAN BURZICHELLI AND JOHN BARRETT
  The Alliance for Action's South Jersey Regional Dinner on May 3, 2011 will honor Assemblyman John Burzichelli and business leader John M. Barrett.  

The dinner will be held at Tavistock Country Club in Haddonfield, with registration beginning at 5:00 P.M. and the dinner at 6:00 P.M.  

Assemblyman Burzichelli will receive the Walter Rand Award for public service, which recognizes the late State Senator Walter Rand of Camden County.  

Burzichelli, who also is Mayor of Paulsboro, began his legislative service in January 2002, he is Chairman of the Assembly Regulatory Oversight and Gaming Committee and also serves on the Budget Committee and Homeland Security and State Preparedness Committee.  

Barrett who is President of the Arawak Paving Co., Inc. of Hammonton will receive the Alliance for Action Hall of Fame Award.  He is a member of the Alliance for Action.

PORT CARGO VOLUME RISES TO NEAR RECORD 16 PERCENT
  Container volume at the Port of New York and New Jersey rose 16 percent in 2010, just below the port's peak in 2007.  The increase was reported by Port Authority Chairman David Samson during the recent State Transportation Summit sponsored by the New Jersey Alliance for Action.    Samson said the higher volume of 5,292,020 containers far exceeded the 5 percent to 6 percent increase that had been-projected for last year by Port Authority officials. The dollar value of the cargo was $175 billion.   According to Samson, the port supports more than 200,000 jobs, $9 billion in personal income, $29 billion in business activity and $4 billion in tax revenues.  

NEW JERSEY AMERICAN WATER BREAKS GROUND FOR $75 MILLION PLANT
  Ground was broken by New Jersey American Water for a $75 million new water treatment plant in the Short Hills section of Millburn.  The new facility is scheduled to go on line by June 2012, replacing the 1920s-era Canoe Brook Water Treatment Plant.  

The plant will have high efficiency pump motors, lighting and plumbing fixtures.  It is designed to meet 2012 disinfection byproducts under the Federal Safe Drinking Water Act.  

The project is expected to create 200 jobs.  It will serve customers in Essex, Morris, Union, Passaic and Somerset Counties.  

DATA CENTER TECHNOLOGY PARK PLANNED FOR FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP
  A 71-acre land site in the Somerset section of Franklin Township has been acquired by Russo Development of Carlstadt, which plans a data center to be called Somerset Technology Park.  

The Russo Real Estate and Development Company said the property near Exit 12 off I-287 is an undeveloped site that can accommodate more than 1.3 million square feet of space and has a utility capacity of more than 100 megawatts.

  Russo is seeking permits and approvals for a project of five buildings.  The first is planned as a two-story, 400,000-square foot facility slated for the second half of 2012.  The Russo Company said Somerset Technology Park would be its ninth data center in a decade.  

ALLIANCE GOLF CLASSIC SET FOR MAY 9
  The New Jersey Alliance for Action 35th annual Golf Classic will be held on Monday, May 9, 2011, at beautiful Eagle Oaks Golf and Country Club in Farmingdale.  

The schedule is lunch at 11:00 A.M., shotgun start at 12:30 P.M., and cocktails and buffet dinner at 5:30 P.M.

ADVANCE REALTY WILL DEVELOP ITS FIRST HOBOKEN PROJECT
A seven-story mixed-use building will be developed by Advance Realty as its first project in Hoboken.  Located on a currently underused site at 14th Street and Willow Avenue, "Willow 14" will consist of 140 apartments, 22,000 square-feet of retail space and 287 parking spaces.

Advance said it will begin environmental remediation this month on the one-acre property.  Equipped with energy-efficient technology, the project is targeted for occupancy at the end of 2013.

FEDERAL REDEVELOPMENT GRANT GOES TO JERSEY CITY
A $2.3 million federal grant has been received by the Jersey City Redevelopment Agency to speed completion of the Canal Crossing redevelopment project.  The Transportation Investment Generating Economic recovery Grant is funded by the U.S. Department of Transportation and U.S. Housing Urban Development. The project aims to improve underused lands, create low-income housing and increase access to transportation options.

SPECTRA ENERGY - CONTRACTOR JOB FAIRS
Spectra Energy is hosting a series of job fairs for the construction of its state of the art natural gas infrastructure project through North Jersey.  Construction is planned for 2012 and 2013.  The project will need a variety of suppliers, and service providers, including paving, painting, fencing, landscaping, security, bulk fuel, welding equipment, concrete, sand and more.  The job fairs will be held:

STATE TRANSPORTATION FUNDING A TOPIC AT MORRIS ALLIANCE MEETING
State Transportation funding, the County College of Morris and Dover's revitalization will be topics at the meeting of the Morris County Alliance for Action on April 15.  

The meeting will be at the Birchwood Manor in Whippany, with registration at 8:15 A.M. and the program at 9:00 A.M.  

Presentations will be:

  • Richard T. Hammer, P.E., Assistant Commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Transportation, on "The NJDOT Fiscal 2012 Capital Program."
  • Dr. Edward J. Yaw, President of the County College of Morris, on "CCM - Over 40 Years Serving Morris County."
  • Mayor James P. Dodd, on "Dover - A Most Promising Revitalization."
Co-Chairs of the Morris Alliance are Freeholder John J. Murphy and Michael Obremski, Area Manager, Jersey Central Power & Light.

PEOPLE ON THE MOVE

  • Eustance "Gus" Anselmi, owner and secretary/treasurer of Anselmi & Decicco, Inc., will receive a 2011 Commitment to Education Award of the Union County Educational Services Foundation.  It will be presented of May 5 at the Foundation's 16th annual reception at The Primavera in Stirling.
  • Peter J. McDonough, Jr.,  has been appointed by Rutgers University as Vice President for Public Affairs to direct Rutgers' legislative and policy agenda at the state and federal levels.
  • Sanjay Naik, P.E., received the 2011 Memeber Recognition Award of ACECNJ, which he serves as Treasurer, at the 40th Annual Engineering Awards Event at Rutgers, The State University.  He is founder and President of Naik Consulting Group, P.C.
